View Full Version : 2000 Skandic question

I just bought a 2000 Skandic 600 I'm having some trouble getting it to idle. I runs fine when it's crusing but if I let off the throttle I have to flip the choke on and off to keep it going it also won't idle while it is sitting. It is also hard to start when the temp is below -10. (the battery is shot so I have to pull start it). Any ideas?

Has this machine been sitting stored for awhile? The carbs might need a good cleaning. Did you try adjusting the idle screw?

I have two old Skandics, 380 and 500. They are both a bear to start in the cold. Especially the 500 because it doesn't have a primer, only a choke. Takes lots of pulling to get fuel to those carbs.
The 380 has a primer installed and much easier to start in cold.

You might install a primer, that will help with cold starting for sure.

Does it run smooth with just a little throttle? Maybe your idle is set too low.

Thanks that give me a starting place it did set on an empty tank for almost a year. I'll get my nerve up and pull the carbs and see if they are varnished or corroded up. The Idle adjustment seems to be in a long way but I'll try that one first.
