I have a 16' Fish-Rite drift boat and want to add an outboard. Am looking for advice as to what might work best in terms of weight and horsepower.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Adding a kicker to a drift boat will make your drift boat a lot more versatile and is a very good idea. Many folks go with an 8hp and makes for a good push when you need to get moving. Obviously not a speed demon but plenty of HP to move the boat around in a current or even in the calm of a lake if you want to try that. Shaft length varies and is determined by measuring from the top of the transom to the bottom of the boat (in the case of a drift boat that the bottom of the transom is not actually at water level, then measure to the water line)

Good luck!

Perhaps the yahama t8. I have one for a kicker on 20 ft boat. Lower gearing, bigger prop. Made for power not speed. Electric tilt, trim, and start. Also charges a battery. 4 stroke. Good fuel economy.
