Just in time for my Ganes Creek trip! Looks like I have a new favorite pick - check it out at http://www.akmining.com/cart/mimp4.htm

I'd rather have the magnet or 2 magnets on the pick , not the handle, to catch the iron crap right away as I am digging?

I always mount magnets on the pick end myself.

How do you keep the magnets from falling off Steve? I epoxied mine on but they kept coming off .They don't sem to like impacts. I had to have the welding shop punch a hole thru the pick head with a pulse welder, than I was able to bolt a neodymium ring magnet in place with a nylon lock nut and bolt..

I use the Hodan Pro with the 24 " handle. The magnets will try to come off, I welded a bead across the top of the pick, it is enough of a bump to keep the square super magnet in place.Love this pick. Dave

I found that simply running a thick bead of sealant around the magnet keeps it in place. Like Dave says you just need to keep it from sliding off. It sure will not pop off!

AHH, they finally put a wider scoop on it like the ones many of us have been home making, looks good , B

I think you just need a stronger magnet.I have a 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1/2" N50 super magnet and it takes 2 people to pull it off. AMD probably has them.

That's pretty much what I did to the one you just sent me Steve. I welded some shovel wings on it and tacked a small sheet metal frame around the super magnet. The magnet is right on the middle of the scoop. Guaranteed not to move with the frame around it. Just need to find some good handle material so I can make a new longer one.

Last time I made a longer handle I got a hickory sledgehammer handle from a hardware store and made it fit. Still have it and can switch out via a bolt for shorter one if I want.

That's right along the lines I was thinking Steve. Keeping my eyes peeled for just the right one. Most of the stores around me sell crappy replacement handles. They sure don't make them like they used to.........
