G'day from the 'Land Downunder', thought I might post up a link to a project I've been working on since returning home after my adventures in West Australia with Chris Ralph and this forums very own Steve Herschbach.

This is my way of saying thank you to a couple of 'Swell Guys' (Fair Dinkum Blokes in Aussie lingo (talk) :p). I've not had much of an opportunity to talk with Chris and Steve since returning home but would like to publicly say it was an absolute honor to have a couple of American icons in my camp sharing an evening meal with me.

As most seasoned electronic prospectors know, the art of being successful with a metal detector is in your mental attitude, even after a full month of laying on the hard Aussie ground dealing with a million flies, missing their families and friends and putting up with my cooking, they not once lost their enthusiasm for the Adventure.

Chris and Steve you are both welcome back in my bush camp any time..... I hope my latest endeavors at editing the video footage I obtained on our trip does the experience we shared together justice.:)

Please check back with the Minelab web site often as there will be more segments on "The West Australian Adventure"

It truly was an amazing adventure, something I had looked forward to for many months. JP was a great host, a very knowledgeable guide to the goldfields, a fine camp mate and an unexpectedly talented cook. Australia was a beautiful, fascinating place. Someday in the not too distant future, I'll get back and try again.

Hi JP,

The honor was all ours! You were a great host and I would indeed like to return one of these days. The Western Australia outback is a fabulous place to be. Great hanging out with you and Chris both.

The video as always is top notch. You really have a gift for editing.

I had some. Don't see what all the fuss is about. But I like spam and pilot bread so what do I know?

JP's advice was to spread the vegemite out thinly. It was OK that way. I still think I'd prefer strawberry preserves on my toast.

Hello All, Steve, you and Chris are the envy of all of us...In the ICMJ story by Chris about your WA adventurs he showed a photo of you and JP trying VLF detectors. Could tell us what models they were and how they handled the WA soils.............Thanks Idaho Al

They were the Gold Bug 2 and Gold Bug Pro, both by Fisher (First Texas). Although both had difficulties with the mineralized ground, the Gold Bug 2 handled the tough ground better in my opinion. I think Steve would agree.

We found that several of the patches had small gold that had been missed by PI detectors in the past, which the VLFs could see. With the current high prices for gold, even those tiny pieces are worth going after.

Fried spam on pilot break, melt a little cheese on top. Spam pizza! Great stuff!!!

Jonathan, great job on the videos. Just wish they were much longer. I used to spend a lot of time on the AZ Outback Forum when you 1st atarted posting there & always enjoyed your stuff. I remember drooling over your vehicle setup back when the entire family went with you. Of course I drooled over the gold too...

Fourth installment of 'The West Australian Adventure' is now up on the Minelab website. Watch Chris Ralph, Steve Herschbach and I discussing on camera an area Chris found the day before where some one had previously found gold and our subsequent good luck on the patch thanks to our Minelab GPX 5000's.

Enjoy :)

JP is a rock star!

No question about that! He just has a real nose for gold that has been earned from years of experience. For those looking in on the videos you can learn a lot by listening to him.

Every time I watch those videos it just brings back a whole load of great memories. What an amazing time it was.
Thanks JP for preserving that for us.

Seems 'The West Australian Adventure' videos are very popular, so Minelab asked me to produce a few more of them for 'Treasure Talk'.

In the last video blog, Chris Ralph got onto an area where others had found a lot of gold going by all the dig holes scattered round the landscape, next day I was fortunate enough to get my coil over a nice deep sounding target which turned into a beautiful solid 1/2 ounce slug of WA sunshine.:o

Check out the latest video where Steve gets in on the action using the GPX 5000 and an 18" Monoloop I loaned him for the duration of trip, which he rarely ever took off.:)
