I got the following email and photos on 9/26

Hi I am a diver on a 10" dredge on the Bering Sea off Nome, Alaska and I found a nugget on my dive yesterday morning. It's not huge but it's pretty big for having made it all the way out to the Bering Sea. I was wondering how large of nuggets you have heard coming out of the Bering Sea especially in the Nome, Alaska area. This is the largest one that I have heard of from up here at 4.9 troy ounces.

Certainly the norm offshore is for fine gold. This rates as not only a large nugget but a very nice one; solid with good looks. Anyone aware of anything larger than this found off Nome before?

I can tell you how a nugget that big got deposited in the offshore. A glacier carried it out there. Most of the surface offshore from Nome is glacial sediments or surf reworked glacial sediments. Check out the article i wrote about Bering Sea gold in the April and May 2012 issues of the Mining and Prospecting Journal.
