Not much stuff being sold used these days. We did not get a single used dredge in on consignment this fall.

The guys at Summit Mining here in Boise do a lot of custom sluice work. Call them up and ask for Dan, they build a quality product that is priced reasonably.

Google their web site,

and then alot cheaper at promac az but i am not sure he know what he is doing lol heckler fabrication makes and sells trommels . also can i use steel instead of aluminum or is aluminum better ? and is 10 feet long enough or should i go 12 feet with a few riffels in the front then expanded metal then a few riffles towards the rear ?

I had my own made, if I remember right it was about $600. to have 2 sluice box's made 24" wide 16' long each, fabricated from 1/8" steel

Aluminum is good if weight is a concern for mobility, I use steel, easy to repair in the field etc. my sluice has 8' of slick plate and 8' of riffles I use expanded metal for riffles, everybody's material is different, the expanded works for me, one day I want to build a nugget trap on the discharge end.

also i am not sure if you had seen pics of my trommel but if you look at my older trommel post there are some pics there . how much water does it take to run your box . and if i stay with 12 feet long 18 inches wide with either 4 or 6 inch sides how much water do you think i would need . i was thinking along the lines of 400 gpm or some. my trommel does about 10-15 tons per hour also . so that would be about 24,000 gallons per hour on the low side ?

How much water will depend on what size material is going thru the box and riffle style, my plants screen to 1/2" and with expanded metal I run about 200 gpm I run 16 yards per hour thru each plant 32 yph total for both..

I have 6" sides on my box's I run less than an inch of water in the box so the sides are plenty high, built them 6" for strength, my trommel has 4" sides on its box which is shorter.

Sluice length.. if the sluice is working properly the gold is in the first carpet.. I have 4 - 2' carpets in my box, the first carpet gets most of the gold, 2nd one has a dwt or two, #3 & 4 gets ran back thru the plant, so little gold there its not worth the time to spend cleaning for very little gold, built my trommel with a shorter box with this in mind, was going to have a 4' box but decided to go with 6' instead.

1/8th plate is 5.1 lb./ sq.ft.- a 4x8sheet is 163lb. How big-ah-boy are ya? Dans is pretty heavy!
