Well...
My winter prospecting is on hold for awhile. This mornings temp.
That's January in Interior Alaska.....

Why Dick I feel downright special now. At 8AM, it was only -34.2F at the south end of the Copper River Basin. By 10AM, I cut and hauled 1 sled load of aspen to the cabin.

And now it is a sunny bluebird day and the greenhouse temp is up to -14.4F.

I gotta go get one more load of wood before dark. Every day is a picnic, so I better pack a sack lunch.

Dick, I'm assuming you heat with wood in Chicken?? How many chords do you burn in an average winter?

I am hoping this is the last time I will ever set foot outside when it is below zero. That's the plan anyway!

60 below - that's cold!

it was -15F at my house this morning at 6:30am. I also heat with wood and the past few winters I have averaged a cord/month or 5 cords for the year. There have been winters where I have burned 10 cords in a year.

Crazy winter. This afternoon up at 11,000' here in Colorado I'm walking on bare ground and what little snow there is is melting in the bright, warm, sun.

Dick,
Did you get hit with that big snow last week?

Well, it's all relative. For us it was a 'big' snow.

Our average monthly snow TOTAL for January is 3"-4".
We already have 14" for the month.
Usually just too cold in Jan for snow.

I went out for a short walk this afternoon and thought it a bit chilly out. It was probably 25 above. You all must think that is a tropical heat wave.

I guess no room for complaining here : 66 tonight , buy it's been raining all day and into the night !!! Next winter will be a little colder for me as I plan to prospect all winter in northern Cal or possibly Arizona , Depending on how this summers dredge/transfer systems "go over" with the powers to be around the Klamath River area ... Stay warm and safe guys ... Wes
